Consultation on potential national register of Enduring Powers of Attorney
The Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department has released a Consultation Paper seeking public and stakeholder views on possible arrangements for a National Register of Enduring Powers of Attorney.
Submissions close at 5pm on 30 June 2021.
A mandatory registration scheme for enduring powers of attorney relating to financial matters has been proposed as one way to reduce the financial abuse of older Australians.
In particular, the Attorneys-General from each Australian jurisdiction are seeking views on:
- the policy design of the National Register
- access arrangements for the National Register
- the interaction between existing land titles registers and the new National Register
- possible safeguards for users of the National Register.
