Conveyancing Rules Version 7 and updated guidance for electronically executing plan documents

Publish date:

Version 7  of the Conveyancing Rules, that introduces administrative changes, will replace Version 6 on 1 July 2026 and is now published on the Conveyancing rules page on our website.

Existing electronic execution rules continue

Version 7 of the Conveyancing Rules incorporates at new Rule 12 existing provisions that permit the electronic signing and remote witnessing, where relevant, of land instruments, plans and associated documents in accordance with the Electronic Transactions Act 2000.

This benefits industry by standardising provisions introduced during the  Covid-19 pandemic  (previously a Schedule to the Rules).

  • For plan documents, please see the updated Guidance note on electronic signing, remote witnessing and retention of signed documents.

Version 7 also makes other administrative amendments for clarification including removing redundant references and terms.

Will these changes affect transactions that are schedule to settle or dealings and plan documents that will be lodged before 1 July 2026?

No. Version 6 of the Conveyancing Rules will continue to apply up to and including 30 June 2026. There are no transitional arrangements for the changes.
